Procedure of Teaching

Since I was deployed to a private school that teaches specific subjects according to their own school curriculum, I have to make a lesson plan and activities that match to subjects being taught in their class.

 

Before my demonstration, I have to ask first my cooperating teacher about the subject that is needed to be taught to the students and make sure that my activities are appropriate for the students.

 

In my demonstration, mastering the subject matter is very important. I have to follow the instruction plan carefully from the start of the circle time to dismissal time.

Time Management and Organizing Activities

As a pre-service teacher maximizing the allotted time for the class and utilizing all the learning resources to engage my students in the learning process is one of my university professors taught me. My teaching experience in Indonesia also trained me that as much as I can, I should utilize a very short time or even the remaining time for my students so they can learn new things.

 

We started the class through circle time at 8:00 am. I followed the time plan according to the lesson plan having 20 minutes. The main activity must be before 10:00 in the morning. I do encouragement and review one by one so my students will attain the lessons they need to learn and understand.

Problem - Solving

We cannot avoid the problems and challenges. This happened to me when I run out of words in giving instructions. At times I get panicked. But I got to remember what my professors taught me in this situation. I have to calm down and relax, even deep inside me I am frightened and anxious. So I showed my big smile pretending everything is okay.

Classroom Management

​​If you are a teacher, it is impossible to have a quiet class where the students will just behave and pay attention to you the WHOLE TIME. Even just a minute, they get bored and will try to talk and share stories to you and to their seatmates. A noisy class is very common for teachers and this should concern them. What I did when I was in this kind of situation, is I get their attention saying “Hi” or “Hello”.  Whenever they hear it, they would answer back even they are talking to the seatmates.
