Observation on Teacher

and Pedagogical Content

Teaching Methods of Teacher that I Observed

I was deployed to the class with 4 – 5 years old students. The class daily routine starts with circle time. Students sing together with the teachers, complete the calendar board, sing and read the alphabet cards. The teacher also chooses a little teacher to lead the counting number 1 – 100. Before the lesson proper begins, the teacher will ask the students one by one to do the color zone. The students will put their name tags to the emotion that they felt for that day.

The teacher I have observed is using the traditional method for teaching. The student sits down on their chair and the teacher will give the lesson in front of them. In delivering the lesson, sometimes the teacher uses pictures and concrete things so children will use their senses. In some other time, the teacher uses a chalkboard to introduce and write the concepts of numbers, shapes, or letters.

The teacher hopes that all of the students will be disciplined through the traditional approach. None verbal queues are also utilized. Forming a “chu chu” train (a line) whenever the student has to give their work to the teacher, wash their hands, or go for dismissal is one of the habitual method disciplining the students in SCB.

Learning Materials and Innovations

Based on what I have observed, teachers commonly use workbooks as their basic learning material for activities in answering mathematics, reading, and writing. Concrete materials are also utilized for the students to learn and observe using their senses. Some lesson was integrated with songs to keep the activity fun and interesting for the students. Chalkboards were placed in front of the student’s tables for lessons on letters of the alphabet incorporated with pictures for recognition and letter sounding.

Sources of Learning and Technology

The SCB incorporates the country’s K-12 Curriculum from the Department of Education of the Philippines for it is a requirement for all public and private schools nationwide. That’s the reason why the SCB are using some workbooks and worksheets to develop the skills of their students in reading, writing, and solving basic math problems for these are preparations for big schools.
