Hofilena Heritage House

Sunday morning was so busy, because we need to wake up early and get ready for our first city tour with Miss Sheila and Doc Ana. I the one that took a shower first, meanwhile Crizt and Marta cooked for our breakfast. It was only bread and noodles actually but we full.

At 9.00 am Miss Sheila and Doc Ana fetching us, they were coming inside and brought frying pan, hanger, bowl and some plate with spoon and fork too. They said we can use it to cook our own meals from Indonesia, we also can saving more money because we can cook our own rice and meals.

First destination is Mila, one of bakery store in Bacolod. Even tough we already eat, Miss Sheila and Dok Ana still bring us there and said we are going to a long trip and will have a late lunch.

Miss Sheila drove us all the way to Silay City to visit a museum named Hofileña Ancestral House. We are guided by one of Miss Sheila’s friend, he was tell the history of every inch from this house. The Hofileña Ancestral House contains one of the Philippines finest and rarest art collections. Watching from outside of the house was an ordinary view but getting inside it makes one appreciates the skills of the Filipino ancestors. The ancestral home houses antiques belonging to Silay’s principal families, the Hofileña family. Among the paintings in its collection are works by Juan Luna, Jose Rizal and Felix Resurreccion Hidalgo. It was the venue of the first wood printing in Negros.

The house is owned by the charismatic and garrulous Ramon Hofileña. He is an untiring preserver of Negros Occidental’s cultural heritage. Be sure to book ahead of time so Ramon will tour you around the house and give you a glimpse of his historic arts and crafts collections.

The Hofileña Ancestral House is now considered as one of Silay’s public museums. Although not all can easily get inside the house.

At 12.10 pm the tour was ended. It’s raining outside, heavy rain with the heavy wind also. We decided to go home and say good bye to Mr. Hofilena. Before we reached home, we stopped in a restaurant of Taiwan Food

Miss Sheila and Doc Ana driving us home and gave potato cake for us before we said good bye. This day is so much fun, I did enjoy it. We cook a rice and some sardine for our dinner, after that.
